Greg Kot, music critic for the Chicago Tribune, and Jim DeRogatis, music critic for the Chicago Sun-Tumes, will be the keynote speakers at the 25th Annual Illinois College Press Association convention Feb. 16-17 at the Holiday Inn City Centre. The keynote will be a live remote broadcast of "Sound Opinions," a program described as "the world's only rock-n-roll talk show."

Instead of the usual call-in questions from listeners, the hosts will take questions from students attending the ICPA convention.

Sessions on everything from advertising and round-table discussions will be offered over the two-day conference. Roughly four sessions will be held each hour beginning at 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.

On Saturday a continental breakfast will be served, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The ICPA Board of Directors will meet at 8:30 a.m. All members are invited. Each student newspaper has a vote at the meeting.

From 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. and again from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. four sessions will be held followed by a break for checkout. At noon Saturday, the awards luncheon will be held. Winners of the 2007 ICPA Editorial and Advertising Contest will be announced there.

In addition to registering at the hotel, ICPAmembers should also register for the convention by filling out the form BELOW and sending it in with registration fees. ICPA members could fax the form in care of ICPA Secretary/Treasurer John Ryan at 217-581-2923 and then send their registration fees to him. Ryan can be reached at 217-581-2812 or at jmryan @eiu.edu.

As in past years, the ICPA will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. A continental breakfast will be served at 8:30a.m. See "Newspaper Career Program" on the right for more information.

Each member newspaper also may have one photographer sign up for the "Shoot Chicago" contest being supervised by the Chicago Tribune. Photographers will spend part of their day Friday taking photographs of Chicago and have their work judged by the Tribune's photo staff. For more details, click here. Convention-goers are asked to pick up programs and name tags at the convention registration desk, beginning at 1 p.m. The convention will get under way at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
