Greg Kot, rock and roll critic for the Chicago Tribune, will be the keynote speaker at the 24th Annual Illinois College Press Association convention Feb. 17-18 at the Holiday Inn City Centre. Kot will speak at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the conclusion of the first day of the conference.

Sessions on everything from Hosty v. Carter to the Daily Egyptian's run-in with a con artist will be offered over the two-day conference. Roughly four sessions will be held each hour beginning at 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17.

On Saturday a continental breakfast will be served, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The ICPA Board of Directors will meet at 8:30 a.m. All members are invited. Each student newspaper has a vote at the meeting.

From 9:30 to 10:20 and again from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. four sessions will be held followed by a break for checkout. At noon Saturday, the awards luncheon will be held. Winners of the 2005 ICPA Editorial and Advertising Contest will be announced there.

ICPA members can make hotel reservations up to Feb. 3 at the convention rate. This year, ICPA members have a guaranteed room rate of $109 a night (plus tax) for up to quad occupancy.

The Holiday Inn City Centre is located at 300 E. Ohio St. Parking at the City Centre currently runs $28 a day for self park. In addition to registering at the hotel, ICPAmembers should also register for the convention by filling out the form BELOW and sending it in with registration fees. As in past years, the ICPA will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. A continental breakfast will be served at 8:30a.m. See "Newspaper Career Program" on the right for more information.

Each member newspaper also may have one photographer sign up for the "Shoot Chicago" contest being supervised by the Chicago Tribune. Photographers will spend part of their day Friday taking photographs of Chicago and have their work judged by the Tribune's photo staff. For more details, click here. Convention-goers are asked to pick up programs and name tags at the convention registration desk, beginning at 1 p.m. The convention will get under way at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
